The
communities of Cynheidre, Five Roads, Horeb and Sylen have witnessed
rapid population, social and economic changes over the past 40 years.
Among many other things, we have seen the closure of Cynheidre colliery
and one of our local chapels; replacement of the railway with a cycle
path; the building of new housing and an influx of new residents.
In January 2011, at the funeral of one of the community’s last
‘characters’, a suggestion was made that the rich heritage of the
locality should be written down and celebrated before being forgotten
in the face of these changes. This led to the formation of the Five
Roads & District Heritage Society whose inaugural meeting was held
on 28th June 2011. This website shows some of what we have done since
then as well as what we plan to do.
If you are not already involved, a warm welcome awaits you.
